Second Conditional is used to express the consequence of an unrealistic action or situation in the present or future.
IF + PAST SIMPLE + COMMA + FUTURE IN THE PAST
FUTURE IN THE PAST + IF + PAST SIMPLE
Second conditional is used to talk about:
1) situations that don't exists:
He would go to school by bus if he didn't have so many books to carry.

2) unlikely future situations:
If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world.

3) giving advice:
If I were you, I would go to the doctor.
Note that we sometimes use were instead of was after I, especially when giving advice.

1) If Robert had enough money, he would buy a new car. 2) I would go on a picnic if it didn't rain today. 3) If I were rich, I'd spend all my time travelling. 4) Would you come to me today if I asked you really kindly? 5) Sarah might travel around the world if she had enough money. 6) I would tell her the truth if I were you. 7) Many people would be out of work if the factory was closed down. 8) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? 9) What famous personality would you interview if you were a journalist? 10) If she was hungry, she would eat something.
